Friday Inspirations — Graffiti Grannys

Graffiti Grannys hit the news
Graffiti Grannys hit the news

I was talking to JS last weekend about who my Friday Inspiration was going to be this week, and he suggested the Graffiti Grannys. I had no idea who they were — when he’d told me a bit about them, and I researched some stuff, I discovered they are an awesome yarn-bombing group from Cornwall.

Yarn-bombing is an art-form which is similar to graffiti, except instead of being damaging and ugly, it can be beautiful — and in this case, inspirational. Normally, the yarn-bombers decorate trees, railings, bus-stops etc…and the pieces get removed eventually, and presumably thrown away. Not only is this a waste of good knitting, it’s also a little soul-destroying — hours and hours spent by the artist on a piece, only for it to go in the bin.

The Graffiti Grannys have come up with a way to combat this, by making their yarn bombs removable. The video below, an official one from the group, is in aid of Breast Cancer Awareness. The removable items are themed, and pretty awesome.

That’s all for now, hope you enjoyed. Check them out on Facebook!

Have you ever seen any inspirational yarn-bombs? Let me know, I’m really keen to see what else is out there!

Much love,

Corrie xx

Midwives love knitted boobs. It seems that they all make them (or ask someone to make them some) for demonstrating breastfeeding…
