Knitting teacher!

I’ve taught a fair few people how to knit — one of my favourite photos of the week is this one from Mrs M. JS gave her yarn and needles for Christmas, and I wrote a page on how to knit and lent her one of my books. She struggled and struggled at it — her husband eventually asked:

Please will you come over and teach her how to knit? It’s painful watching her…!

So, last weekend JS and I went to their house, and while JS cooked a delicious roast chicken, I taught his sister the art of knitting. We accomplished casting on (which she had managed herself) and the knit stitch. She’s been working at it since, and sent us this update last night. Hurrah!

I’ve always talked about being a teacher, but never really considered being a teacher of knitting! I guess that to feel really legitimate, I would have to have some qualification — is that how it works? I have no idea. I love spreading knowledge – especially when people have been unfortunate enough to not been taught by a family member.

I’m a huge believer of traditions, and I love that the tradition of knitting was passed on to me with my female family members as my teachers. I think that it’s one of the greatest things they could have taught me, and I’m so determined that this is something that will be a big part of my life. Not knitting (haha, try stop me!), but not losing touch with humanity and the physicality of being human.

I’ll stop ranting now, honest! I absolutely love the internet (uhhh…hello, Plutonium Muffins, Corrie!) but I guess I’m a bit old-fashioned too. I kind of like that.

Much love,

Corrie xx
